Neal D. Barker joined HSG in 2001 and became a partner in 2015. He came to the firm with several years of managed care and physician practice experience. Neal served as a provider relations representative and physician credential coordinator for a 2,000-member Independent Practice Association and fulfilled various roles within primary care and dental practices. Today, he provides clients with expertise and leadership in: physician practice mergers and consolidations; physician practice operational improvement; physician network development; physician employment and practice acquisition; physician compensation (including independent and employed, medical directorships, and call pay); physician-hospital alignment strategies (including professional service and co-management arrangements) and strategic planning for both hospitals and physician groups.

Before joining HSG’s consulting team in November, 2013, Dr. Terrence R. McWilliams, a Family Physician, spent a decade as the Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at Newport Hospital, an acute care community hospital in Rhode Island. During his tenure as CMO, he supervised the Medical Staff Services Office; was responsible for quality of care/patient safety/risk management, clinical information systems, medical staff services, physician recruitment and clinical service line development. He was intimately involved in numerous system-wide initiatives, including creating system-wide Medical Staff Bylaws, spearheading various clinical IT projects, and contributing to broad-based performance improvement efforts.

Beth Simpson’s passion for healthcare is rooted in her personal desire to help others, especially when they are most vulnerable. She enjoys utilizing her operations and analytical background to assist clients in identifying opportunities for improvement within practice operations and revenue cycle. In addition, Beth has contributed extensively to the completion of hundreds of fair market value and commercial reasonableness opinions for physician and advanced practitioner compensation, hospital-based services subsidies, medical directorships, on-call coverage compensation, asset valuations, and overhead sharing arrangements.
