history
An Evolving Field
Origins
The field of provider compensation valuation gained prominence in the mid-2000s, driven by evolving federal regulations like the Stark Law and Anti-Kickback Statute, which emphasized fair market value (FMV) compliance in physician and APP arrangements.
Recognizing the need for a dedicated professional community, standards, and education in this specialized area, the American Association of Provider Compensation Professionals (AAPCP) was established in 2020 as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.
Story
Since its founding, AAPCP has rapidly grown into the nation’s leading community for provider compensation professionals. Key milestones include:
– Launching the Certified in Provider Compensation Valuation (CPCV) credential—the first national standard specifically for this field.
– Hosting annual national conferences and virtual events focused on benchmarks, trends, and strategies.
– Building a member-led governance model with input from healthcare systems, valuation firms, and industry experts.
Today, AAPCP continues to advance collaboration, thought leadership, and professional development in provider compensation and workforce strategy.
